Pharmacist Internship Program

UFS like to support intern pharmacists find their place in the world of pharmacy by placing them in dynamic, challenging and supportive working environments whilst they perfect their skills. The difficulties faced by intern pharmacists can be stressful and often isolating, but our team strive to make your internship year a time of confidence building, growth and learning. Our internship program has been so successful in previous years; we have past interns that now manage some of our most successful pharmacies within the company. Don’t just take our word for it, read on about their journey from pharmacy interns to Pharmacy Managers.

Kirsty began her career at UFS in 2010 when she started her intern year at Wendouree UFS Pharmacy. Under the guidance of her senior pharmacist, she describes her time there as challenging but exciting as she learnt more about the consultation side of pharmacy and management responsibilities of running a dispensary.

After her internship year, Kirsty went on to be a roving pharmacist between the several Ballarat UFS pharmacies, giving her the opportunity to experience different working environments, customers and co-workers. These two years as an early career pharmacist moving between stores was fantastic exposure to the different workloads you can have as a pharmacist depending on the place. She worked in stores where she was the sole pharmacist and had complete control and responsibility of the pharmacy, but also in stores where she shared a busy dispensary with up to 4 other pharmacists. At the end of 2012 she became Deputy Manager of Wendouree UFS Pharmacy and after two invaluable years in that position she took on the challenge as the temporary Pharmacy Manager of Mt Clear UFS Pharmacy. Once the opportunity for growth presented itself, she then moved on to become the Pharmacy Manager at Delacombe UFS Pharmacy – the role she is currently in.

From Malaysia, to Hobart to Ballarat; Pick has come a long way to be the Pharmacy Manager of Doveton St UFS Pharmacy. After completing his studies in Hobart he relocated to Ballarat to start his internship year. He was attracted to the position at UFS because of the good history and culture that surrounded the company. He was interviewed for his position as an intern by the CEO and Chief Pharmacist, which to him indicated how seriously they took it and the invested interest the company had in his development as a pharmacist.

Pick enjoys working in regional pharmacy, as he feels the community rely on their pharmacists more with a shortage of other healthcare professionals. This has meant that his knowledge has increased and his interpersonal skills have improved when it comes to consulting with patients. UFS’ holistic approach to healthcare has meant that Pick has worked collaboratively with GPs, psychologists and physiotherapists to achieve results for his patients.
