UFS is proud to be participating in the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine program and offering this service to the community.
The vaccination clinic is located at 18 Drummond Street North, opposite the Ballarat Base Hospital.
The clinic opened on 24 March and operates from 9am to 5.30pm on weekdays and from 9am to 4pm on weekends.
Vaccination is free, is strictly by appointment only and is open only to those currently eligible. To check eligibility visit covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au/
Those eligible are now able to book online via www.ufs.com.au/vaccine Patients unable to book online can phone 4320 0891.
Please note: this clinic is only approved to deliver the AstraZeneca vaccine.
On 17 June, 2021, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) changed the age recommendation for COVID vaccination. ATAGI now recommends the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine as the preferred vaccine for those aged 16 to under 60 years.
For people aged over 60 years AstraZeneca is still recommended. People of any age who have had their first dose of the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine without any serious adverse events should receive the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The UFS COVID Vaccination Clinic only stocks AstraZeneca. If you have an appointment for your first dose at the UFS COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic and you are under 60 years old, you can cancel your appointment online via your HotDoc account (if you booked your appointment online) or by calling the clinic on 4320 0891.
The Australian Government recommends that the COVID-19 vaccine by AstraZeneca is preferred for adults over 60 years old and the Pfizer vaccine (Comirnaty) is preferred in adults aged under 60 years. This recommendation is based on:
- the increasing risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19 in older adults (and hence a higher benefit from vaccination), and
- a potentially increased risk of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia following AstraZeneca vaccine in those under 60 years.
The COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine can be used in adults aged under 50 years where the benefits clearly outweigh the risk for that individual and the person has made an informed decision based on an understanding of the risks and benefits. More information is available here.
Please be aware that we do require masks to be worn by all patients at the clinic.
Patients must not attend the clinic if they:
- are experiencing respiratory symptoms
- are waiting COVID-19 test results
- have attended any identified exposure sites
- have been directed to self isolate
If you fall into any of the categories above, please call us on 4320 0891 to reschedule your appointment.
UFS continues to operate the COVID-19 testing clinic from its current location at 15 Errard Street North, Ballarat, which is separate to the dedicated vaccination clinic.
